Forrest

Forrest is a GSP on the go! If you’re looking for a best friend to accompany you on outdoor adventures and to snuggle up next to you in bed or on the couch, Forrest is your guy! Forrest is just over a year old and has the energy to match. We like to think he would have been in his element as a TSA dog. He is ready for a task and would excel at nosework. Some other significant positives of Forrest include:

  • He enjoys being in the car and goes right to sleep during road trips
  • He is smart and learns quickly
  • He loves running around the backyard
  • He enjoys playing fetch
  • He gets along well with other dogs
  • He is non-reactive to strangers
  • He likes watching squirrels and birds and has been known to point
  • He has not shown any signs of separation anxiety and can be left home alone, uncrated
  • He likes nothing more than curling up next to his human to sleep at night

On occasion, Forrest has demonstrated resource guarding of food and toys, so he will need a savvy handler who understands this behavior and who can consistently manage and assess the environment and keep working with him on his training exercises. Forrest is also currently on medication to ease his anxiety.

We truly believe that Forrest is a diamond in the rough and a great dog who needs time, patience, and dedication to smooth out his rougher edges. In a nutshell, he still has puppy energy and manners and needs gentle and consistent guidance to learn the ropes. His leash manners require refinement, but he’s progressing well on a harness with a front leash attachment. Practice makes perfect!

Due to Forrest’s energy level, over-excitement, and puppy hijinx, he would do best as an only dog in a quiet home with a single adult or a couple with no kids. A big backyard for roaming, digging, and sniffing would suit Forrest to a tee. With the patience, affection, and understanding of those around him, Forrest has come a long way during his time at the rescue. With continued work, love, and dedication, Forrest is sure to flourish!
