Poppy

Adorable Poppy caught her foot in a fence when she was only four months old. Her foot was badly dislocated and she did not receive treatment right away. Then she came into rescue – she was facing amputation of her leg but our vet wanted to try saving her leg by fusing her ankle. That treatment included six weeks of kennel rest followed by six weeks of gradually increasing activity. After all that, Poppy was still not able to bear weight on her leg. This also put her at risk of tearing the ligaments in her “good leg” due to her imbalance. The first week of December Poppy had a last-chance surgery on her ankle. It included taking a piece of bone out of her shoulder and transplanting it into her ankle, and securing it with a plate and pins. Poppy is facing eight weeks of kennel rest to let things heal again. It also means weekly trips to the vet for bandage changes. Her foster family is prepared for the upcoming months with a kennel in every room of the house, including one set up in front of her favorite window – where she happily watches the neighbors and the squirrels.

You can help Poppy have the life an active young GSP deserves! Her surgery cost $6,989 and that does not include her follow-up visits and bandage changes. Please donate to Poppy’s medical fund if you are able. Thank you!
