Beckett

Beckett is a 2-year-old, neutered male GSP. He is microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

He is in training and currently knows “sit,” “down,” and “wait” for food and doors. We are actively working on leash skills, recall (whistle is about 75%), “give,” and “drop.” Like many young GSPs, his responsiveness varies with distraction level. He is smart, eager, and very food-motivated, but still needs consistency and follow-through.

He has been well-received at both the dog park and daycare and plays enthusiastically but appropriately, including with younger pups. He reads other dogs well and is often commented on for his good looks and sweet, people-oriented disposition.

As for kids, he met a toddler and was gentle and curious. That said, due to his high food drive and impulse level, I would not place him in a home with small children or children frequently handling food without experienced supervision. He has never shown aggression, but he will counter-surf and grab food if given the opportunity.

He is very food motivated and can lunge for food, so continued work on impulse control and “drop” or “give” will be important. He also has a playful tendency to grab items and play keepaway, which is typical of a young, smart, high-energy dog. Beckett is crate trained and rides well in the car. He has not yet been left alone loose in the house.

With cats, he is respectful with a confident cat after a proper introduction, but has chased more timid cats, so management and dog-savvy cats are important.

Beckett is not a beginner dog and will not be placed in a first-time dog home. He requires an experienced owner who is comfortable providing structure, consistency, and ongoing training for a high-energy, food-motivated sporting dog.

Rehoming fee for Beckett is $275 and he is currently located in Lafayette CA. If you would like to learn more about Beckett please contact Beryl at berylgulya@gmail.com.
