Izzy (Aspen) – passed away May 2026

Izzy came to us from the Sacramento area and was driven all the way down to Monterey by a generous NorCal volunteer in 2014. Izzy was two years old. She was shy (and had Kennel Cough) plus some quirks, such as using her paw to punch you in the face. Luckily, this habit wore off after a few months. She settled in quickly with our two other GSPs, who warmly welcomed her to our family.

We spent her lifetime with us walking and running on the beaches in Monterey, Pacific Grove-Asilomar, Carmel Beach, and several in Big Sur; we hiked in the dog-friendly parks, trails, and along the Carmel River. We left CA briefly for two years to live in Denver, Colorado, where she got to play in the snow (luckily, it worked out for us to return to Monterey). Every weekend we would go for hikes. I love birding, and she did too (After all, she was a bird-dog!).

At one point, we had four GSPs, two from NorCal GSP Rescue (one was a Forever Foster) and our original two males who came from the SPCA in Las Vegas. We have one GSP now who is 15 years old, and we will be searching for a new companion/s for him and for our active outdoor lifestyle.

It will take a while to get used to Izzy not sitting next to me on the couch or sleeping next to me in bed, or always following me around, and seeing her little happy feet dance when she would see me pick up her harness that signaled it was time to go hiking.

Izzy lived to be 14 years old. She was a beautiful soul, and we were so lucky to have had her in our lives for twelve wonderful years.

Our hearts are broken, but full of many fond memories. Thank you, NorCal GSP Rescue!
