Billy

Meet Billy!

Billy is a 49-pound sweetheart with a gentle nature, a love for adventure, and plenty of affection to share. He settled into foster care quickly and has proven himself to be a happy, social dog who enjoys being part of the action, whether that’s exploring the backyard, riding in the car, or curling up for a good snuggle.

One of Billy’s best qualities is how well he gets along with other dogs. He quickly became comfortable at doggy daycare and happily socialized with a group of medium and large-sized dogs, both male and female. He would likely love having a canine companion in his forever home. Billy is also friendly and curious with people, showing interest in everyone he meets.

Billy has all the classic “velcro dog” traits. He likes to keep an eye on his people and often follows them from room to room. That said, he’s also happy to spend time outside soaking up the sun, watching birds, squirrels, and lizards before checking back in with his favorite humans.

At home, Billy is housetrained. He sleeps quietly in his crate all night as long as his person is nearby. He enjoys squeaky toys, tug games, food puzzles, and rawhide bones. If he happens to grab a sock, he’s usually happy to trade it for one of his toys.

Billy loves car rides and settles in nicely once he’s inside, although he’s still learning how to jump into the vehicle on his own. He’s making progress and responds well to encouragement and treats.

Like many young, enthusiastic dogs, Billy is working on his manners. He has very little formal training and can be quite a handful on leash due to his strength and enthusiasm. He pulls hard, jumps when excited, has limited impulse control, and occasionally counter-surfs if given the opportunity. Billy is smart, though, and catches on quickly. He reliably responds when his foster family whistles and says, “Billy, let’s go!”

Billy would thrive in an active home that can provide daily exercise and continued training. Potential adopters should know that Billy has successfully scaled a six-foot fence while pursuing a squirrel. Because of his jumping, a home without small children would likely be the best fit.

Billy’s ideal family will appreciate his sweet personality, enjoy an active lifestyle, and be ready to help him build the skills he missed earlier in life. In return, they’ll get a loyal companion, an enthusiastic adventure buddy, and an expert-level snuggler who is always happy to be by their side.
