Meet Zahn

At about 3 years old and 48 pounds, Zahn ticks most of the GSP boxes: Athletic enough for adventures, compact enough to fit comfortably into everyday life, and—best of all—he comes with a very good “off switch.”

At home, Zahn is an easy, calming companion. He loves being near his people and will happily follow you from room to room, curl up beside you (or preferably on you), and sleep in bed if invited. But he’s also independent enough to settle quietly on his own and does very well in his kennel when his people are away. He pays attention, takes direction beautifully, and seems to genuinely enjoy figuring out what is expected of him.

Outside, his younger, playful side comes out. He is curious and has a healthy GSP prey drive. His current favorite pastime is hunting lizards in the yard, taking a quick dip in the pool to cool off, then heading right back to the important business of lizard patrol. This boy LOVES water.

Zahn has been wonderful with children ages 7–13 and really enjoys playing with them. He has also done well with the dogs he has met and respects their signals. He can get very excited about making a new canine friend, so his foster family is introducing him slowly and helping him practice his manners.

He’s a nice and quiet dog. On the occasion he gets really excited, he may treat you to a combination of barking and singing. He’s playful and still enjoys a good chew toy, and responsive when told what belongs to him and what doesn’t.

And then there’s his smile. Zahn was injured before coming into rescue, apparently after becoming caught in something like barbed wire. He bears a few scars from whatever happened, and several damaged front teeth had to be removed. His remaining teeth are healthy, and the missing ones haven’t slowed him down one bit—not when it comes to eating, playing, or dismantling the occasional stuffie. His scars and slightly imperfect grin just add to his character.

Zahn is a rare GSP who manages to be both fun and peaceful. He’s curious without being frantic, affectionate without being helpless, playful without needing constant entertainment, and attentive to the people around him.

He would love a home where he can be part of everyday life, get out for adventures, have plenty of things to investigate—and, if he gets extremely lucky, perhaps have some water to splash in.
