Morris

Meet Morris!
20 weeks old | 26 lbs | Likely GSP mix

Morris is a handsome, easygoing pup with striking markings, soft brown eyes, and a wonderful balance of playful puppy energy and a calm, laid-back personality. He’s a gentle boy who has settled into his foster home quickly, respectfully finding his place among the resident dogs and making himself right at home.

Smart and eager to learn, Morris picks up new things quickly. He’s already figured out that sitting patiently for his eye drops (for his corneal abrasion, now healed) earns him tasty treats, and he even puts himself in position when he sees the medicine box! He’s curious about the world without being easily rattled. When the vacuum came out, he calmly watched it for a while, decided it wasn’t particularly interesting, and went off to find a bone to chew.

Morris enjoys playing fetch with his Kong Wubba, running around with the other dogs, and occasionally turning a game of fetch into a friendly tug-of-war. He’s also perfectly happy to settle down with a chew bone on a dog bed or curl up beside his favorite canine friends. When it’s time to relax, he loves being close to his people, soaking up gentle attention, and getting a good belly rub. He’s the kind of pup who will happily follow you around the house and then settle in for some cuddle time.

Morris has lovely manners for such a young puppy. He’s good with other dogs, adjusting his approach to their individual personalities and respecting their space. He’s especially fond of playing with younger dogs but is equally content to quietly visit with older dogs. He’s also been around a 5-year-old child and does very well, responding to simple cues like “sit” and “off.” He hasn’t reacted to neighboring dogs barking at the fence, and he generally takes new people and situations in stride. He has not been tested with cats.

He’s making nice progress with his puppy training, too. Morris knows “sit,” “off,” “go out,” and “go in,” and is learning “come” and “drop.” He’s working on leash skills in the house and yard while he finishes his vaccinations. He enjoys following along and responds well to playful redirection and encouragement.

Morris is doing well with house training and uses a doggie door to reach his designated potty area. Like any young puppy, he still needs reminders and a consistent routine, particularly after playing and when coming out of his crate. He’s also a good little crate sleeper, settling quietly through the night and waiting for permission before coming out. When left alone, he stays in his crate and may give a brief bark but quickly settles. He’s currently comfortable being alone for an hour or two.

Morris is still a puppy, so he’ll need a family willing to continue his training, provide age-appropriate exercise, and help him learn as he grows. A home with another friendly dog would be a nice fit, although what’s most important is a family ready to include him in their daily activities. Morris would likely enjoy accompanying his people on outdoor adventures and runs when he’s old enough, but he’s not an over-the-top, constantly-on-the-go puppy. He’s just as happy hanging out at home with his people.

Morris is a sweet, thoughtful, intelligent little guy with a lot of potential. He’s already showing what a wonderful companion he can be, and he’s ready to find a family to grow up with!
