George is a 1½-year-old neutered male German Shorthaired Pointer with all the classic traits GSP lovers adore—bright, athletic, affectionate, and eager for a job. He’s been deeply loved, but a series of severe medical crises have left his owner unable to care for him. A close family friend, Heather, has stepped in to help George find the active, engaged home he deserves. He will need to be placed by December 31, as the home is being sold shortly after.
Healthy, Social, and Ready to Go
George weighs about 61 lbs and is up to date on vaccines (Rabies + DHPP in November 2025). He’s microchipped, in good health, and has been receiving consistent flea and ear care. He’s house-trained, non-escaping, knows his basic cues, and is working on crate training. In short—he’s ready to settle into a new routine with his future family.
Friendly With People and Dogs
George has lived with a 4-year-old female GSP mix and does very well with other dogs—easygoing, playful, and appropriate. He also enjoys kids and has been wonderful with older children and teens who’ve stayed in the home. Because he’s an exuberant, bouncy youngster, a home without toddlers is recommended, simply to avoid accidental bumps.
He loves meeting new people and has a friendly, happy-to-see-you attitude.
True GSP Drive—And Lots of Potential
George has spent much of this year in a yard with limited outlets, so he has built up plenty of energy and enthusiasm. He keeps himself busy tracking scents, scanning for anything flying overhead, and even doing some creative “landscaping” by leaping for tree branches. He isn’t destructive—just a classic under-worked GSP with a big engine and a bigger brain.
The good news? George loves to work. Heather has been giving him daily training and play sessions, and he shines with the guidance and engagement. He has a soft mouth, takes treats gently, and has no issues with sharing toys or bones.
This boy has a fantastic nose and incredible natural instincts. He holds point beautifully (he once held point on a fly inside a crate—for 30 minutes!). Activities where he can really use that brain and body—retrieving work, scent games, field-style activities, structured strength or sport outlets—would be right up his alley. He’d also make a terrific partner for someone who wants to explore things like spring pole, slat mill, or other working-dog challenges.
What George Needs
George will thrive with:
-
Daily structured exercise (not just time alone in a yard)
-
Mental stimulation and training
-
A person or family who enjoys an active lifestyle
-
Clear routines and opportunities to use his natural talents
With those needs met, George is a joyful, affectionate companion who loves humans, loves dogs, and genuinely wants to engage with his people.
Ready for a Fresh Start
George is an incredible young dog who hasn’t yet had the opportunity to live the GSP life he was built for. He has all the potential in the world—whether as an adventure partner, a budding retriever, a scent-work prospect, or an energetic family companion.
If you’re looking for a bright, athletic young GSP who’s ready to learn, bond, and thrive, George may be the perfect fit.
