Kai

Meet Kai – Your Loyal, Smart, and Lovable Companion!

Kai is ready for his forever home and a family of his own to keep an eye on. Eager to please, to follow, and to learn, Kai is surprisingly docile for a 9-month-old puppy.

Some of the surprising things about this pup after his months in a kennel – he is not a barker, not a runner, not a jumper, not a digger, and not a beggar. He is a crate-trained, house-trained, toy-loving, dog with good listening skills, good leash manners, and impressive patience for a puppy . Though he loves to play chase and wrestle, he is also content curled up at your feet for hours. He is learning commands quickly and has picked up house manners from the resident dog. His favorite pastime is chewing, so it’s a good thing he understands which toys are his.

A bit on the timid side, he will come out of his shell for ear scratching or treats. His cautious nature shines in public by staying close, being gentle with strangers and deferential with other dogs. Kai’s first exposure to cats went well, with the cat in control of the situation, and his demeanor around children has been easy going. With other dogs, he has gone from shy to playful in a matter of hours, happy to share toys, food, dog beds, and play tug-of-war with the resident dog.

While Kai’s shape, coloring, gait, and speed are 100% GSP (and beautiful), he does not seem to have the GSP prey drive or interest in birds and squirrels. In fact, his foster family reports decent improvement in nose work but none in playing catch – being perfectly happy to eat the treat from the floor after it bounces off his nose.

Kai and his foster are working on his confidence, and his forever home will help him along this path with patience, understanding, and love. Even as he gets more relaxed and comfortable, you may still find yourself with a Velcro dog for the first few months. With love, routine, and reassurance, he will blossom into a fantastic companion. If you’re ready to give Kai the stability and care he deserves, he will reward you with endless loyalty and love.

Could Kai be the perfect fit for you? Come meet him and find out! ❤️🐾
