Laney

Meet Laney, a 2½-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer with a big heart, an athletic spirit, and a serious love for her people. At about 55 pounds, Laney is the perfect blend of affectionate companion and enthusiastic adventure buddy. She’s a classic “velcro” GSP who wants to be wherever her humans are—preferably close enough for a snuggle.

Laney is a happy, friendly, affectionate girl who greets everyone like a potential new friend. She’s wonderful with people and especially great with kids, making her a joyful presence in a family setting. Despite her energetic nature, she has lovely manners with people and doesn’t jump when greeting. What she does love is leaning in for pets, curling up next to her people, and sharing the couch after a good day of activity.

Like many GSPs, Laney is smart, enthusiastic, and very trainable. She already knows her name and “sit,” and she’s currently learning “come,” “crate,” and “down.” With her eager-to-please attitude, continued training will be both fun and rewarding for her and her future family.

Laney is also an excellent travel companion—she absolutely loves car rides and is always ready to hop in for the next adventure. Hiking trails, running with her people, and exploring the outdoors are some of her favorite activities. Her foster home currently gives her a morning run or similar exercise for 30+ minutes, along with additional activity later in the day and longer outings like hikes a couple of times each week. Keeping Laney active is key to helping her thrive.

One of Laney’s greatest joys is playing with other dogs, and she would do best in a home with another energetic dog who can keep up with her playful spirit. In her foster home, she and a young GSP buddy are best friends and love running, wrestling, and snuggling together. Having a canine companion helps her burn energy and keeps her happiest.

Around the house, Laney is fully housetrained and comfortable in her crate, where she stays when her foster family is away for short periods. She’s typically only alone for about an hour at a time and would do best in a home where she isn’t left by herself for long stretches.

Laney also has a playful side. She loves tug-of-war with rope toys and happily chews on bones when relaxing. And after a good run or play session, she’s always ready to settle in for some cuddle time.

Because Laney is such an athletic girl, she will need a home that can safely contain her enthusiasm. She can jump a six-foot fence, so she’ll require secure fencing over six feet high. She’s also very interested in wildlife and has a strong prey drive, so she will not be a fit for homes with cats, rabbits, or small animals. On leash, she’s currently very strong and pulls, so her adopter should be prepared to continue leash training and help her build better walking skills. Laney can also be a little sensitive to loud noises like thunder, but she settles quickly with reassurance and affection from her people.

Overall, Laney will shine in an active home that can give her daily exercise, companionship, and plenty of love. Her ideal family will:

  • Have another energetic dog for her to play with

  • Provide secure fencing taller than six feet

  • Enjoy running, hiking, or other outdoor activities

  • Be home enough that she’s not left alone for long periods

In return, Laney will bring endless affection, loyalty, and joyful energy to the lucky family who welcomes her home. She’s the kind of dog who will run with you in the morning, play all afternoon, and curl up beside you at night—exactly where a devoted velcro girl like Laney wants to be.
