Meet Misty – Your Sweet, Social, Sun-Loving Sidekick

Misty is a 6-year-old, 54-pound spayed girl who is ready to find a loving home that matches her easygoing, affectionate nature. She’s up to date on vaccinations, recently had a dental cleaning, and is feeling much better after her recent gastrointestinal issues. With her soft personality and love for people, Misty is the kind of dog who quickly becomes a beloved part of the family.

Misty absolutely adores people. On walks, she happily tries to greet everyone she passes—she’s convinced every stranger is a potential new friend! At the vet, she made the rounds looking for pets and attention, soaking up affection wherever she could find it. If you’re looking for a dog who will enthusiastically welcome guests and charm everyone she meets, Misty is your girl.

At home, Misty is a calm, loving companion who enjoys the simple things in life. Her favorite activities include lounging in the sun, relaxing around the house, and following her person from room to room. She’s a true Velcro dog who thrives on closeness and connection. While she’s mostly mellow, she does have playful moments—she’ll happily bounce around or play with a stuffed toy for a minute or two before settling back into relaxation mode.

Misty gets along beautifully with other dogs and enjoys their company. She’s also been fine around cats and is comfortable with children, tending to be calm and indifferent as kids pass by. She’s the kind of dog who fits easily into a variety of home environments, especially ones filled with love and companionship.

She’s housetrained and does a great job communicating when she needs to go out—she’ll ring a bell on the door or pace to let you know. She hasn’t had any accidents in the foster home and has settled in nicely to her foster routine.

Misty enjoys daily walks (around 2 miles) and is an enthusiastic explorer. She tends to walk with purpose and can pull on the leash, especially when she sees her dog friends—she really wants to keep up with them (they’re often off-leash and a bit faster than she is!). At the same time, she loves to stop and investigate all the interesting smells along the way. We like to call her walks a “sniffari”—part sniffing adventure, part safari—because she truly enjoys taking in the world around her. She’s more about the experience than the distance—she likes to stop, take in her surroundings, and occasionally try to sneak a nibble of a leaf or rock if given the chance. Because of this, she’ll do best with someone who can keep an eye on her during outings and help guide her along. Using a front-clip harness has been helpful, as she can pull on leash and is still learning her walking manners.

She’s also just beginning her training journey. Misty is learning cues like “sit,” “come,” “wait,” and “back up.” She can be a little stubborn and may take her time responding, but she is making progress and will benefit from continued positive reinforcement and patience.

Like many curious dogs, Misty has a playful, slightly mischievous side. She enjoys exploring the world with her mouth and may nibble on things like shoes, cords, or household items if left unattended—very much like a puppy discovering her environment. She responds well to redirection, and a home that can provide supervision and appropriate chew toys will help set her up for success.

Misty also has some understandable anxiety when left alone or confined. She is not yet comfortable in a crate without support and currently needs medication to help her relax when crated and left alone. Her foster is working on building positive crate experiences, and she’s already showing small signs of improvement. She may whine or become restless when left alone, as she much prefers being near her people. She’s learning to enjoy car rides; she needs to be lifted in and out.

Despite these quirks, Misty’s loving personality shines through in everything she does. She’s quiet (foster parents haven’t heard her bark yet), enjoys companionship with both humans and dogs, and brings a gentle, affectionate presence to the home. Occasionally, she may give a soft growl over a toy or food with another dog – easily managed and doesn’t escalate.

Misty would thrive in a home where someone is around more often, can give her plenty of affection, and is willing to guide her as she continues learning. A moderately active household that enjoys walks, social outings with people and other dogs, and lots of cuddle time would be ideal. She’d also do well with another friendly dog, though it’s not required.

Her foster shares that Misty is incredibly sweet, cuddly, and full of love—so much so that many visitors have suggested she should stay forever. While she may not be the right fit for a highly active lifestyle, she will make a deeply devoted and loving companion for someone who appreciates her gentle, affectionate spirit.

If you’re looking for a loyal, people-loving dog who will greet you with warmth, follow you faithfully, and happily soak up all the pets and cuddles you can give, Misty is ready to meet you.💛

Misty is currently on medical hold; she is experiencing GI issues, has started medication, and is on a special diet. She is feeling better and needs more time to recover.
