Rocky is a handsome, athletic German Shorthaired Pointer born 1/7/2023 and weighing about 64 pounds. He’s neutered, microchipped, house-trained, crate-trained, and up to date on vaccines (including Leptospirosis and Bordetella). Vet records are available.

In true GSP fashion, Rocky is smart, driven, and full of enthusiasm for life. He’s the kind of dog who wakes up ready to do something—whether that’s learning, running, training, or heading out on an adventure. He thrives when he has direction and purpose and would love a home that enjoys staying active and engaged.

Rocky already knows his basic cues and has had some hunt training. He’s been out hunting a few times and truly enjoys it. Like many young pointers, he still needs polish and consistency, but the foundation is there and he’s eager to learn. He’s very trainable and responds well to structure—he just needs someone who has the time and commitment to help him channel his energy productively.

At home, Rocky is affectionate and loyal. He loves being near his people and will happily sunbathe outside or relax on his bed once he’s had appropriate exercise. He does well in his crate when the family leaves the house. If left loose and under-stimulated, he may whine or look for something to occupy himself (and occasionally chew or dig if bored), which simply speaks to his need for more activity and mental enrichment.

With children in his current home, Rocky is gentle and tolerant. He allows them to play around him and with him. Because he’s young and exuberant, he can get bouncy and very excited—especially with new people. He greets strangers with big energy, lots of enthusiasm, and vocal excitement. He absolutely loves attention; learning calmer greetings will be an important next step for him, and with consistent training, that’s a very achievable goal.

Rocky has no experience with other dogs or cats, so thoughtful introductions would be recommended. He is not an escaper and does well in a secure yard, though, like many sporting breeds, he may dig if chasing something interesting.

Health-wise, Rocky has some skin allergies and has been taking Apoquel to help manage paw licking and scratching. Otherwise, he’s a healthy, strong young dog.

Rocky’s current family loves him very much, but with a new baby and limited time to meet his exercise needs, they recognize he would thrive in a home better suited to his drive and energy level. He is not a “casual stroll around the block” dog—he is a partner for running, hiking, hunting, advanced training, dog sports, or an active lifestyle where he can truly shine.

If you’re familiar with the GSP breed and appreciate their intelligence, stamina, and heart, Rocky may be your perfect match. He wants to work, wants to learn, and wants to be part of the action. With the right outlet and leadership, he has all the makings of an exceptional companion.
