Meet Tucker — a loyal, athletic GSP looking for a calm, understanding home

Location: Lakeport, CA

Rehoming Fee: $350 (donated to NorCal GSP Rescue)

Tucker is a handsome, 70-lb German Shorthaired Pointer with classic breed athleticism, intelligence, and heart. Born 10/24/2017 and neutered, Tucker has been with his current family since 2018, after being rescued from an abusive situation as a young dog. Thanks to years of consistency, training, and love, he’s grown into a deeply devoted companion who bonds hard with his people and thrives in a predictable, structured environment.

Tucker is being rehomed because his family recently welcomed a baby. While Tucker has done well with thoughtful management, he is a sensitive dog who struggles with unpredictable situations and is fearful of new people until he has time to warm up. As their child grows and becomes more mobile and unpredictable, his family wants to proactively find Tucker a home that better matches his needs—one where he can continue to feel safe, understood, and successful.

The good stuff (and there’s a lot of it):
Tucker is well-trained and very responsive to routine. He’s loose-leash trained, knows basic and extended cues, and does quite well with recall. He is fully house-trained and crate-trained, though he doesn’t need a crate—he’s perfectly trustworthy loose in the house and happy to relax on a dog bed or snuggle in bed with his people. He can be left alone without issue (even for a full workday on occasion) and does fine alone in the yard or car.

True to his breed, Tucker loves outdoor activity, running, and playtime. He’s athletic and intelligent, but also a total softie once he feels secure—he genuinely wants to be close to his people and would happily audition for the role of “oversized lap dog.” He bonds deeply and loves calmly hanging out with his trusted humans.

Social notes:
Tucker does well with other dogs, especially female dogs, and is typically submissive. He does best with calm, respectful canine companions and may struggle with overbearing or intact male dogs. He has lived successfully with cats and will ignore indoor cats he’s familiar with, though his hunting instincts may kick in with unfamiliar outdoor cats.

With people, Tucker needs a little patience. He doesn’t love strangers approaching him right away and benefits from slow introductions and space to observe before engaging. Once he warms up, he is affectionate and loyal. Because he is fear-reactive in unpredictable situations, Tucker is best suited for an adult-only home or one with older teens (12+) who can respect boundaries and understand dog body language. He enjoys calm companionship and does well with people who let him set the pace.

Health & care:
Tucker is healthy with no known medical issues. He is up to date on all vaccinations, on heartworm prevention, microchipped, and full vet records will be provided.

Ideal home:
Tucker will thrive in a calm, experienced home that understands sensitive or fearful dogs and values routine and structure. He does best in predictable environments with clear boundaries and patient humans who appreciate a dog that loves deeply once trust is earned.

At a glance — Tucker’s best qualities:
• Athletic, intelligent German Shorthaired Pointer with classic breed traits
• Loves outdoor activities, running, and playtime
• Affectionate and loyal once comfortable
• Very responsive to routine and structure
• House trained and crate trained
• Trustworthy when left alone
• Enjoys being near his people
