Josie

Josie – 5-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer
Location: Discovery Bay, CA
Rehoming Fee: $250

Josie is a beautiful 5-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer who combines the best qualities of the breed—smart, affectionate, athletic, and always ready for the next adventure. At about 50 pounds, she’s a great size for an active companion and is happiest when she has a person to bond with and a job to do.

Josie is a well-rounded dog with both family and sporting experience. She knows her basic cues, is house-trained and crate-trained, and has experience hunting upland game. She’s also a strong swimmer, so with the right introduction, she could easily transition to waterfowl work. Like many GSPs, she has a strong prey drive and loves being outdoors, whether that’s running, exploring, or working in the field.

In the home, Josie is affectionate and very people-focused. She’s lived with children ages 3–10 and has done well with them. She greets new people with curiosity—usually giving them a quick sniff—and sometimes jumps up in her enthusiasm to say hello. She rides well in the car (though very windy roads can occasionally make her a bit carsick) and settles nicely when left alone in the house. As long as food isn’t left out within reach, she’s a trustworthy house companion.

Josie has been left home alone during the workday (about 10 hours, Monday through Friday) and handles that routine well. She can spend time in the yard without trying to escape, though she would always prefer to be with her people. When the family is home, she may vocalize a bit if she’s outside while they’re inside—she simply enjoys being part of the action.

Josie does best as the only pet in the home. She has become jealous of other dogs in her household and does not get along with them there. Interestingly, when out and about—such as on walks or at the dog park—she generally ignores other dogs and does not react to them. Because of her prey drive, she is not a match for a home with cats.

Josie is in good health overall, is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. She does experience occasional small seizures, but they are infrequent and do not require medication.

What Josie really needs is a home where she can be someone’s primary companion. She thrives on attention and partnership, and she would likely be happiest with an active person or family who enjoys outdoor activities like running, hiking, hunting, or exploring. With her intelligence and drive, she’s the kind of dog who will gladly keep up with whatever adventures her person has planned.

If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, and athletic partner—and you don’t have other pets—Josie could be the perfect match. She’s ready to devote herself fully to someone who will appreciate her energy, affection, and enthusiasm for life.
