Gilmore

Oh, Gilmore! This cute young boy has had a bit of a rough go lately. Here’s his story.

Gilmore ended up in the shelter with wounds on his leg and shoulder, and what appeared to be a broken leg. The shelter vet examined him, confirming a broken leg with multiple breaks and bits of metal in the fracture site; the vet then cleaned all his wounds and bandaged and splinted his left rear leg.

The shelter asked us to take him since he was going to need surgery and a closely supervised recovery period. Our team sprung into action to get him into foster care. Then, good news for Gilmore! The orthopedic specialist had a last-minute opening, and Gilmore was able to have surgery much sooner than anticipated. It was a complicated repair of the broken tibia, with external hardware to stabilize the breaks. Now Gilmore is on his way to recovery – he’ll need to take it easy while things heal, and you’ll notice his padded bandages to protect the hardware and the leg. Thankfully he is doing well!

Gilmore’s expenses are $7,270 to date, with more to come for re-checks, medications, and the rest of his routine veterinary care. Please consider helping Gilmore, every dollar makes a difference!

April 13 update – Good news! Gilmore has had the hardware removed and is healing well! He is now working on gradually building up the strength in his legs.
